Today I’m giving thanks for Mark Leverentz. Mark joined in Jan 2014 as HomeSpotter’s CTO. Prior to that, Mark and I worked together for about 5 years at my prior startup that sold to Pearson.
In my telling of the story, it took several attempts over many years to get Mark on board to join us. I think Mark may recall it a bit differently.
Mark joining was a complete game changer for the company and for me personally. After four years in the business, I was able to increase focus on sales, product, recruiting, and fundraising while I began to shut down my focus on engineering due to the innate trust I put in Mark. Our developers were also able to receive more direct mentorship than I was able to give at the time.
Mark joined at just the right time, too. We had just signed up a set of major customers that required onboarding 60 MLS data feeds in four months. When others in the industry doubted we could do that in such a short period of time, we succeeded with flying colors. That was the first of many ‘un-accomplishable feats’ delivered over the next 7+ years.
In the coming years, Mark would play an instrumental role through many iterations of the business, including the launch of our second product line, Boost, our acquisition of Spacio, and due diligence for our acquisition by Lone Wolf.
For every roller coaster ride up, Mark provided a steady hand at the wheel in the downturns as well. He has a unique blend of patience, intelligence, and tenacity. And just when you think he is sitting in the room silent, he will lean in and ask the most important question that no one else thought of.
Mark- I’m honored you joined me for the HomeSpotter journey and grateful we get to continue working together at Lone Wolf. I truly couldn’t have done it without you.
